Picnic Adventure between Land and Sea
- Guided walk through the vineyards of a wine estate
- Local picnic + 3 glasses of wine
- Cellar visits at 2 other wine estates
- Tasting of 5 to 6 wines at each wine estate
The Roussillon is one of France’s most extraordinary wine regions, and one of its least explored. This full-day circuit, departing from Perpignan, takes you through four distinct terroirs in a single day: coastal lagoons, sun-baked schist, ancient valley floors and dramatic limestone cliffs. Aboard a comfortable vehicle with Nicolas, your guide and former cellar master, you discover the estates, the landscapes and the wines that make this corner of Catalonia unlike anywhere else. Available for groups of 2 to 8, with winemaker picnic and tastings included.
A family estate overlooking the Canet-en-Roussillon lagoon
Your first stop is a family-run estate on the edge of Canet-en-Roussillon, where the vineyard opens onto a panoramic view of the lagoon and the Mediterranean beyond. A guided walk through the vines sets the tone for the day, Nicolas explains the coastal influence on the terroir while you taste the estate’s wines in the setting of its original stone cellars. A rare combination of landscape and glass.
A gourmet picnic in a centuries-old cellar in Rivesaltes
Heading inland, the landscape shifts and the atmosphere changes. At a Catalan inn nestled inside a centuries-old wine cellar in Rivesaltes, lunch is served, a picnic built from local flavours and paired with estate wines. Unhurried, convivial, and deeply rooted in the tastes of the region. One of those moment you remember for reasons that are hard to explain.
The Agly Valley and the Côtes du Roussillon Villages appellation
The road continues into the Agly Valley, where the terroir shifts again, schist and granite, intense heat, old vines with deep roots. At a family estate in the heart of the Côtes du Roussillon Villages appellation, Nicolas introduces the local grape varieties and the winemaking choices that define this style. A tasting that reveals just how much a single valley can contain.
Maury — the world of Vins Doux Naturels beneath Château de Quéribus
At the entrance to the village of Maury, in the shadow of the legendary Château de Quéribus, you arrive at one of the appellation’s iconic estates. Here, the focus shifts to the Vins Doux Naturels of Maury — naturally sweet wines made from old Grenache noir vines grown on black schist soils. Nicolas reveals the ageing methods that give these wines their character: glass demijohns left to oxidise in the open air, century-old wooden casks, time measured in decades rather than months.
The Cirque de Vingrau — a final panorama
The day closes at the Cirque de Vingrau, a natural amphitheatre of pale limestone rising above the vineyards. A moment of stillness at
he end of a day that has covered, in a few hours, what most visitors to Roussillon never see in a lifetime.
A full day, four terroirs, one region seen from the inside. Whether you are discovering Roussillon wines for the first time or deepening a long-standing passion, this circuit is designed to change the way you think about what is in the glass.
